Mitral valve endocarditis (MVE) is an infection of the entirety or portion of one or both mitral valve leaflets. It can be caused by different pathogens, but bacterial origin is the most common. Endocarditis usually occurs when germs from elsewhere in the body travel through the blood and attach to damaged areas of the heart. People with damaged or artificial heart valves or other heart conditions are most at risk. Here you’ll see how I treated MVE in this patient.
Aortic Valve Vegetation
Endocarditis is caused by a growth of bacteria on one of the heart valves, leading to an infected mass called a "vegetation". The infection may be introduced during brief periods of having bacteria in the bloodstream, such as after dental work, colonoscopy, and other similar procedures.
